And the Oscar goes to:

The Academy Awards of Basketball are presented annually by SportsThat to recognize excellence of amateurs in college basketball. Below is a recap of the award winners and some acceptance speeches.

Best Actor Nominations:
Demarcus Cousins - for his role of Mr Blonde, the villain you love to hate in "Reservoir Dogs"
Evan Turner- for his role of Enis the broken back buckeye in "Brokeback Mountain"
Jerry Smith - for his role of Paul Blake (Old College Student) in "Necessary Roughness"
Rick Pitino - for his role of Karen Sypher's lover in "Rick Pitino - Back on Top"

It was a close one. Jerry does such a stand up job being an old man, Rick nearly had us convinced that he wasn't actually Karen Sypher's lover, Evan Turner's broken back just sold us on the depth of the character, but the Oscar goes to... Demarcus Cousins... ultimately he plays the best all around character. One minute he's the villain, the next the hero. He's proud one moment and cries the next. He just makes the audience eat out of the palms of his hands. What did Cousins have to say about the other competition

Best Actress:
Texas Girl

Ashley Judd

Kansas' Porn Star

This one was the hardest to figure out. Redheads, Blondes, or Fake Blondes... 19, 40, or 26? Really, we all know Judd has what it takes to win, and Texas girl was an internet sensation, but... the Oscar goes to...the Kansas Porn Star. Kansas is on to something here with Recruits. All it takes is some good seats behind the bench and hot easy girls will sit there, sit the recruits next to them, and signature will roll in. This one seems like Self is taking a page from Lane Kiffin's book.

Best Director:
Jim Boeheim - Syracuse
John Calipari - Kentucky
Bill Self - Kansas
Tom Crean - Indiana
Boeheim has never won a Coach of the Year award, but come on, the Cuse were good last year. They nearly won the Big East Tournament and they are bringing many of their players back. Self has a great team, but this is the same script with the same actors as last year. Crean has thrown the script Kelvin Sampson wrote out but his version has yet to pan out... so the Oscar goes to ... John Calipari's NIT to NCAA contender turnaround, Wildcats. Sure you can expect the Cats to be in the chase every year, but before JC stepped on board, the Cats had been written off as a memory of yester-year.

Best Picture:
Syracuse
Kentucky
Kansas
Villanova
Duke
Louisville
Kansas St
Indiana
Michigan St

Just like the real Oscars, I'm throwing out the last  5-6 entires. They're there for ratings. Syracuse, Kentucky, and Kansas are the real teams in the race.

Kansas - This is like Die Hard 5. The same script as last year but John McClain is another year older. Eventually they will realize that Bruce Willis just doesn't cut it and neither will Sherrod Collins and co.
Syracuse - A Big East Team as a favorite is like dumping $300 million dollars into a James Cameron film. Sure, it has the special effects, is in 3D, and can win alot, but it lacks story, depth, and a chance at the major awards.

so the Oscar goes to...Kentucky. They have everything, the veteran underdog Patrick Paterson, up-and-coming leader John Wall, and even the guy some love to hate Demarcus Cousins. The supporting cast is better than most leading characters and the team has grown throughout the year. Kentucky it is as Best Picture and Best Team (although that's not an Oscar category).

  3. It wouldn't be the Oscars if the audience didn't disagree - and most of the audience didn't hate the winners.

  4. Where can I get a copy of Rick Pitino-Back on Top?

  5. I hear they're currently making a movie called "Into Thin Air" and it's due out sometime next year. It's an in-depth look at how John Calipari will bolt from UK and take his "bought" recruits with him.

Word is that this movie, although not completed yet, is making a serious push for Best Picture.
