'Cocks washed up after loss to Tide

Cats fans across the state breathed a sigh of relief this afternoon after watching Alabama comeback from 16 down to top the South Carolina Gamecocks. Kentucky, who was scheduled to play the winner, was expected to play a grudge match game against the 'cocks tomorrow at 1:00pm after a home and home split during the regular season. The script fell apart when the Tide took the lead with 2 minutes remaining and never looked back, thus avoiding the repeat with the team responsible for 50% of Kentucky's losses.

Senior and 1st team All-SEC member, Devan Downey came up with stat sheet stuffing 21 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals in the loss. Downey, a spray and pray shooter, was 33% from the field shooting 7-21.

The loss marks the end to the South Carolina (15-16) season along with Downey's career. Downey was credited with the first Kentucky loss in Columbia earlier this season and was responsible for the dagger that threw the Cats to the NIT in 2009.
