College basketball round up part 1: Louisville-Don't get fooled again.

Another song by The Who that can be applied to Louisville is, "Who are you?" This Louisville Cardinals basketball team is one of the most unpredictable teams that I have ever come across. The ESPN Game Day crew all picked the 'Cuse to win the game. My brother, a huge Louisville fan, expected a loss. The people I work with that are big Louisville fans expected a loss. Why wouldn't they? It wasn't like the Cards had been playing all that well lately.

They had just lost the last 2 out 3 games that they had played. Both of those losses coming by double digits and the lone win was by 2 against a UConn team that is tough at home but will not make the tournament. The Orange had just reeled off four straight wins after their loss to Louisville. One of those wins was against a ranked Georgetown team and the other win was an utter beating against a ranked Villanova team.

So, how did Louisville win the game? The one player that came out of nowhere to totally kill Syracuse was Kyle Kruic. That young man played the game of his life Saturday. 22 points, 4 from the three line, a couple of assists and a block. The 2-3 zone that Boeheim refuses to leave was exploited by Kurics awesome night beyond the arc.

Samuels had a nice game with 12 points and Sosa gave them 9 while Smith gave them 8 before injuring his thumb. Louisville had only two players in double digit scoring but had a good number of players contribute.

Syracuse had four guys in double digits. The most surprising stat is the anemic 3 points by Andy Rautins. The guy was a no-show and the Orange suffered because of it. He had to show up for Syracuse in order for them to win in that atmosphere.

In my humble opinion, the game was won due to emotion, a good game plan by Rick, an amazing night by Kyle Kuric, and some magic in the air for the last game in Freedom Hall.

It is impossible to predict how far Louisville is going to go in the Big East tournament. I don't expect them to be playing for the Big East tournament title, but I won't get fooled again by their previous games. This team can beat anybody they play but they can also get beat by anybody they play. It wouldn't surprise me if they went out the first round but I also wouldn't be surprised if they did make it to the final game.
