Special Comment: I'm Sick of Cornell

I am really tired of hearing how great of a story it is that Cornell has made it this far. I am sick of hearing about all of their "experience" and how well they shoot the ball. I am sick of guys like Jay Bilas picking Cornell and Doug Gottlieb hostily questioning John Calipari about how the Cats are going to guard the unguardable shooting of Cornell. I am sick of hearing about "all o the size" Cornell has, like Kentucky is short or something. I am sick of hearing how there "may be" a chance that Cornell can beat Kentucky. There is NO chance that they beat Kentucky.

This is not an academic competition so I really don't care that Cornell is an Ivy League school. I don't care that Cornell doesn't give out athletic scholarships. If they did then maybe they would have won more than two games in the NCAA in the ENTIRE HISTORY of their basketball team. Get with the program Cornell: if you to compete with the rest of the NCAA then give out athletic scholarships. It's not like the University of Kentucky doesn't give out academic scholarships, it's still a university. If the Big Red want to continue to be good at basketball then start acting like it, until then let's not make a big deal about it anymore.

Before the tournament Cornell had scheduled some tough competition by playing Syracuse, Seton Hall and Kansas. They lost all three games. And all of that "experience" that analysts just love to dote on has come mainly against the craptastic Ivy League. One of their losses also came by one of those craptastic Ivy League teams, Pennsylvania, 79-64. The Mighty Quakers lost 22 out of 28 games to NCAA powerhouses such as Drexel, Lafyette, La Salle and Navy. Don't forget that loss to Delaware!

I am done treating Cornell like they're a real threat. I am going to be bold here and predict a win for the Cats Thursday night. I'll be even bolder and vow to not post on this blog for a month if Kentucky loses this game. I will be bolder still and make my last blog before my month long hiatus about how much I love Rick Pitino and Louisville basketball. That is how much confidence I have that Kentucky will beat Cornell.

Cousins, Wall, Patterson, Bledsoe and the rest of the Cats should have an absolute field day against this team. If they lose, and I doubt they will, it is something that they will have to live down the rest of their lives. They will be known as the 1 seed that went down to a team that might as well have been a 16 seed.

Even kids that go to Cornell don't even like it there!

  1. I wouldn't consider Seton Hall, who lost in the first round of the NIT, tough competition.

  2. Seriously, you're sick of hearing about Cornell?? You don't think people in this part of the country are tired of hearing about UK and their NBA players? Blue Jesus, the John Wall dance, Boogie, Calipari is amazing and clean as a whistle, UK2K, etc....

There's no comparing the little bit of coverage on Cornell to the season-long hump-fest of the Wildcats.

  3. The difference btwn Cornell and Kentucky is Cornell is a National darling and Kentucky is a great team. Kentucky was consistently ranked all year in the top 10 and deserves the hype. Cornell beat A-10 Temple and Big 10 middle man Wisconsin... deserves talk because they are a 12 in the sweet 16... but much more than that is just ESPN needing something to talk about.

  4. Seriously, which is a bigger story for this year's tournament? Top 5 all year Kentucky going to the Sweet 16 or very surprising Ivy League Cornell going? How many people who follow college basketball even knew about Cornell before this tournament started?

Give me a break! UK fans complaining about someone else getting some press....

  5. What upsets me is that people actually think Cornell is going to beat Kentucky, like Cornell is going to be some type of competition. Jay Bilas picked them for the upset. Seriously?

As for all of the UK stuff: You can't tell me they haven't earned the attention. They have some of the most exciting players in the game and have lost only twice all year. If you were lving in Kansas you would have been hearing the same thing about them.

When UNC was good last year they did specials on Tyler Hansborough and the Tar Heel program. They deserved it, they were a helluva great team.

I don't mind Cornell getting press but it's bogus that people are acting like Cornell is going to go out there and beat them. Analysts already looked to UK to get beat by Wake Forest and that didnt happen.

  6. Who cares what Jay Bilas thinks! Do you want every single analyst to say UK is going all the way this year? NO - instead, you'd like people to pick against your team as this helps keep a chip on the shoulder.

Louisville was the #1 overall seed, and won the Big East Conference and Tourney, but they still weren't the talk of the tournament. Was that bogus that not every analyst didn't pick them to go all the way? Or is it only bogus that it's happening to your team?

I just know we saw the writing coming early with Cornell. I think they are better than the 12 (as mentioned) but not as good as ESPN says they are.

  8. I don't think every analyst should pick UK to go all the way this year. If they were playing WVU, or Washington or Wake Forest or Texas or Syracuse or Duke then I would be fine with it. It's the fact that it's Cornell.

What is annoying is that people are acting like Cornell is this great team. I understand it's a Cinderella story and all but come on, give me a break!

As for Louisville being the #1 overall seed last year, they deserved being the seed. UNC was still the favorite because it was UNC and they had the talent that year and the players that nobody could match up with. Kentucky has that type of talent. I am not saying they should be favorites but whatever hype they get is deserving. Just like EVERYBODY picked Kansas this year to win it. Kansas deserved to be the early favorites this year.

  9. Why don't you whine a little. I think you're real problem here is that you're pissed that the national media has stopped slobbering all over Kentucky for two seconds and decided to talk about someone else for a change.

    1) Instead of declaring victory before the game has even tipped-off, you might want to go back and watch some game tape of your beloved Wildcats. They've struggled this year away from home against teams that have slowed tempo, not turned the ball over, and shot well from outside. They've also struggled with the few centers that are taller than DeMarcus Cousins. Cornell meets all of those criteria. Is it likely that they will beat UK? Of course not. But it sure as hell isn't out of the realm of possibility when you consider that Kentucky needed overtime to beat Miami of Ohio, a second half comeback to beat Alabama, and a miracle intentionally missed free throw, followed by a tipped rebound, followed by an airball, followed by a putback at the buzzer (not to mention the refs ignoring Bledsoe's lane violation).

Finally, only a Kentucky fan would complain about an Ivy League school making the Sweet Sixteen as the only one of the group that doesn't offer athletic scholarships. Unlike UK, they have something to offer beyond a bag of cash once you sign your LOI. You know, like an education. The fact that a team full of MBA students has made it to the medal round of the NCAA tournament alongside schools like UK with graduation rates in the 30s is remarkable. Even if you in-bred, backward bastards are the only ones that can't see it through your aviator sunglasses.

  10. Kar:For someone that hates Kentucky it sure sounds like you watched every game this year on the edge of your seat :) Keep drinking the haterade and we'll see you in the Elite Eight. Have a great day!

  11. I wouldn't exactly say there's NO CHANCE of Cornell winning. Though the possibility is very slim, don't forget just 3-4 years ago, little George Mason making the Final 4. Crazier things have happened my friend.

  12. The craziest thing I've seen happen is that Pitino has gone all week, and has yet to slay a baby. Thank God California put them out or else there would've been another mass slaughtering of babies this week to ensure victory.

  13. I think Cornell has a much better chance than Boogie is making it out to be. I said all along they were a 6-7 seed. They definitely aren't comparable to the other 12 seeds... I think UK wins, but may not cover the spread (9.5).

  14. Wow, KAR hit the nail on the friggin' head! And who the heck is this "PitinoAbortedMyBaby" and why is he talking about Pitino? This article is about how a UK fan is upset because Cornell is getting some press and 100% of the nation's attention isn't on his beloved Cats.

Speaking of George Mason, weren't they the media darlings back in '03? So why not let Cornell have their 15 minutes? Parity is what makes college bball interesting this year.

  15. Dunkface, it was a response to Favre4Ever saying crazier things has happened, and I was just pointing out that crazier things have indeed happened. Do you remember the last time Pitino went a whole week without aborting a baby? Crazy isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Okay PitinoAbortedMyBaby, it's been a lot longer time since Pitino has "supposedly" done that than it has since Calipari has had a season VACATED!!!!!!!!

Got Final Fours vacated? Calipari Does!!!

  17. There are a lot of Cornell fans in this area of the country!

Monster Mash: i'm not saying Cornell won't give them a game, I'm just saying there is no way UK loses.

    Good posting everybody?

  18. I didn't realize you Kentucky fans had fancy things like computers and internet. Y'all must be awful proud of y'alls season. My prediction: Cornell wins by the number of final fours your coach has had vacated (that's two for all you rednecks who can't add).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I believe I'd take vacated final fours over slaughtering babies any day of the week! You would change your tune if Pitino aborted one of your babies so he could drink its blood like he did one of my babies. I hear the source of his power and his inability to change game plans comes from aborting babies?

  20. Sorry to hear about your baby, PitinoAbortedMyBaby.

  21. Sick of hearing about another school besides uk? You got to be kidding me! I was born in KY and have lived here all my life and how any uk fan could complain about another school getting a little publicity is pathetic. I am so sick of hearing about the ca-yats 24-7 and the reference to cities where uk is playing as such things as "blue bayou", catlanta, and other silly and self serving names that I can imagine how folks in other parts of the country laugh at uk fans and their fat, uneducated, hick fans who show up acting like they don't get out much. For the record, this not a UL fan writing this either.
