Friday Predictions: Cal meets Cobb

Another big weekend of college football on the horizon for both the Cats and the Cards. Before we break down the games it is important to note an important meeting that took place between two of the most recognizable people at UK. Randall Cobb is sick of the current losing streak that the Cats are currently on and sought out a little help from none other than John Calipari.

Cobb said he and Cal discussed how he can get his team more motivated and how he can reach out to make their jobs easier. Cobb also joked that Cal asked him to try his unbelievable skills out on the basketball court. I'm not sure how much of a baller Cobb is on the hardwood but it would be fun to see.

South Carolina at Kentucky- Another nationally televised game on ESPN2. Another top 10 team. Another chance for the Cats to come out and make a statement. South Carolina comes into Lexington with a loss against 5-0 Auburn and a win against previous #1 Alabama. The Cats are on the threshold for their season. 4 losses in a row will be detrimental to this team's confidence and may put an unmovable cloud over the team.

It's not all doom and gloom. UK has one of the best offenses in the SEC and one of the best offenses in the country being in the top 25 in almost every offensive category. The doom and gloom is that one of the SEC's top running backs, Derek Locke, is out with a neck injury. That leaves Donald Russell as the feature back. Russell was impressive against Auburn with 9 carries for 32 yards.

Cobb will be looked to duplicate a 4 touchdown performance. The downside is that Cobb doesn't play defense. South Carolina has an equally high powered offense with a balanced attack that made the Alabama defense flinch. Stepehn Garcia leads the passing attack and Marcus Lattimore leads the ground attack. UK's defense has been the Achilles hill and that's being nice. The defense MUST step up or another loss will be at hand.

Final Prediction: Cal's talk with Cobb and an upset happens South Carolina 33-Kentucky 35

Cincinatti at Louisville- The Dirty Birds are flying high after womping up on Arkansas State and Memphis. Like Kentucky, Louisville has failed to win against a challenging opponent. Their two losses come against Kentucky and Oregon State.

Lucky for Louisville, the rest of their schedule is full of Big East opponents; aka cupcake city baby!! Cincy is actually one of the better teams in the Big East and has been putting up big points in recent games (19,29,45). Louisville is being viewed as a Big East bottom dweller but is one of only four teams in the conference with a winning record. Yes, it's that terrible.

For Louisville, this is a litmus test. Louisville beat up on the teams they were expected to (EKU, Arkansas State, Memphis) and lost to the teams they were supposed to lose to (Oregon State, UK), now the challenge is to see where they stand against a conference foe with questions of their own. Both offenses have been good and Louisville's defense has been up and down but they are just coming off of a shut out bid against Memphis. This one is tough to call because I think Louisville can actually win.

Final Prediction: Louisville falls to Cincy on a night reserved for high school teams in a close one Cincy 32-Louisville 28.

Well, enjoy this weekend of college football. Tonight I and the rest of the Big Blue Nation will be basking in the glory of Big Blue Madness.
