Calipari's Maker's Mark Bottle. That's my kind of finish line...
Tiger's taking top billing on every channel just like he has anytime he has come out of rehab in the last 3 months. Here in "Possibility City" the Kentucky Derby and all it's festivities are getting ready to kick off. This weekend marks one that is most overlooked, the Derby Festival Classic. While this game doesn't have that McDonald's All-American appeal, or Jordan Classic ring, it does get an occasional B grade recruit. The game tips off tomorrow in Freedom Hall with the 2-on-2, dunk contest, and 3 point shooting competition underway tonight at Bellarmine's Knights Hall, oh yeah Tiger: - Tiger was all over Augusta, like any woman not named Elin, yesterday. He swung his politically correct woods better than he ever has in the first day at the Masters. Woods went to the clubhouse at -4, 2 shots back of the leader and his first ever first round in Augusta under 70.
- The Derby Festival Basketball Classic, featuring Louisville, Kentucky and IU recruits is tomorrow in Freedom Hall. The game features Louisville recruits: forward Justin Coleman, guard Russ Smith and guard Elisha Justice, UK recruit Stacey Poole, Jr. and IU signee guard Victor Oladipo.
- Cal's on the recruiting trail this week, as yesterday marked the first day of the spring contact period. He visited CJ Leslie (#14) in North Carolina and is making a late push in Virginia for Doron Lamb (#21).
- You can put your resume to rest. The DePaul coaching job was filled. As I realize many of you submitted youre resume's to their website, they only chose one, Oliver Purnell. But don't get too down on yourself. While I realize a recession may or may not still be going on, coaches do get fired, so there's always a chance next year - or in DePaul's case, maybe mid-season - that the job is open again.
- Billy Clyde is still on the market and the Oregon coaching job is still "the market." Thus, the two met yesterday for a chance to see if when BCG has Nike's on, if he runs a team into the ground faster.
I would love to vacate a bottle of Maker's Mark this weekend.
