The calm before the Storm and Enes Kanter is the New Star Wars Kid

The sports world is kind of quiet today and there isn't all that much going on as of right now. There is a storm a-brewin' and recruits are at the eye of the storm. As the week goes on expect Sportsthat to be blowing up with new recruit news and the impacts they may or may not have on their new teams. We have a little over 48 hours until Brandon Knight announces his commitment to Kentucky. 4 p.m. on April 14th. Until then, here are some other stories you may enjoy:

  • In not surprising news Santonio Holmes was traded to the Jets from the Steelers. The Steelers organization is completely fed up with the antics of the wide receiver and their star quarterback Ben Rapistberger, I mean Roethlisberger. Holmes was the MVP for the 2009 Super Bowl. That throw and catch to steal the game from the Cardinals seems like it happened a decade ago.
  • Speaking of Big Ben, he is scheduled to meet with The Comish this week ahead of the Georgia DA's decision. Apparently there will be disciplinary actions taken. So does that mean that Ben is going to be traded too? Doubt it.
  • The hockey playoffs are set. Click here if you give a rat's ass.
  • Kentucky basketball assistant coach Rod Strickland has been charged with his fourth DUI. The other three DUI's occured before his time at UK but it will be interesting to see what Calipari will do, if anything. I don't think that this is a huge deal since Strickland is just an assistant. It's not like he knocked up his mistress in front of people in a public restaurant and then paid for an abortion or anything. The DUI is illegal.
  • It looks like Mike Hartline is going the be The Man starting under center for the Cats come August training camp and beyond. The senior has the edge over sophomore Morgan Newton and red shirt freshman Ryan Mossakowski. His leadership and encouragement are what is setting him apart at the moment. My guess is that he will start the first 4 or 5 games and then Newton will finish the season as the QB and will be the starter his junior year.
  • Enes Kanter is a web phenomenon. If you type his name in Google you get 1,110,000 hits. That is more than Brandon Knight (960,000), Jared Sullinger (54,300), Josh Selby (304,000), Justin Coleman (95,900), and Marquis Teague (77,300). The Beast has been unleashed.
  • Here is an interesting article that has different sports writers pontificating on which UK underclassmen will stay. Interesting and that's about it. There is no useful information on which guy will stay or leave for sure.
