And.....they're off!

So its official. Five University of Kentucky underclassmen have now declared for the NBA draft. Freshmen John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, and Daniel Orton join junior Patrick Patterson in making the jump to the professional ranks. This ends any futile day-dreams of Kentucky fans that the core of this year's Elite Eight team might return to seek a national title.

While there's no doubt that UK coach John Calipari will be able to bring in another superb recruiting class, even a crop of top-ranked freshmen will be hard-pressed to match the exploits of this year's freshmen. Additionally, top-ranked talent does not always equate to a deep run in the NCAA tournament, as evidenced by this year's North Carolina squad, which failed to make the tournament field despite annually ranking at the top of the recruiting charts.

Let the Brandon Knight speculation/salivating begin...

  1. PPat is gone, but there's always the hope the others don't sign with an agent... sniff sniff...
