John Calipari and the Bulls: The World Wide Leader in Rumors

I was reading today that the Chicago Bulls fired their coach Vinny Del Negro. Already there is a list of coaches that might be a good fit in Chitown: Phil Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Byron Scott, Avery Johnson and John Calipari. Yes, John Calipari. This wasn't some Internet rumor site, this comes straight from ESPN.com. There is another ESPN blog that lists six reasons why the Bulls should consider Calipari and there is also a video attached of UK great Jamal Mashburn explaining why Cal would never leave Kentucky.

I am not surprised by any of this nor am I worried about it. I have resigned myself to the fact that as long as Calipari is the coach at Kentucky and as long as he has continued success, then there will always be rumors about him jumping ship for the pros.

This is nothing new. Coach K just finished refuting the rumors that he was going to leave Duke for the Nets. Rick Pitino has been battling rumors (self-created or not, you be the judge) that he is leaving Louisville for the Nets or the Kings. Successful college coaches are always going to have the bright lights of the NBA in their sights. It is a tough transition to make and the only coach that has won on both levels is Larry Brown.

The rumor mill is always churning.
