What You Have Been Waiting For: Boogie Picks the NFL Divisions! AFC Edition

This guy has the #1 selling NFL jersey and he hasn't played a down.

It is that time of year when all the red blooded American men in this great country get ready for one thing: Football. I have been waiting in great anticipation for this since Drew Brees hoisted the Lombardi trophy as the Saints topped the Colts in last year's Super Bowl. Now, my picks for the AFC divisions in the NFL for 2010.

AFC:

East:
New England Patriots
New York Jets
Miami Dolphins
Buffalo Bills

I think that this is the year that Tom Brady finds his mojo again and the Patriots of old are reborn. Randy Moss has been called a malcontent by some and I think he will have something to prove. Plus, we all know Bill Bellichick is probably pissed because everyone is picking the New York Jets to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Speaking of the Jets, Mark Sanchez has made it clear that HE is the leader of the team. Uh-oh. Not so sure about that Sanchize. The Jets went to the AFC Championship game despite the poor numbers their QB put up. Their defense is great, there is no question about that. But without Derrell Revis, the D has a huge hole to fill. Besides, nobody else can shut down Moss like Revis did. Nobody. These two teams could flip flop, depending on Revis. The Bills are terrible and the Dolphins actually have the talent to be that team in the #2 spot. Their running game is one of the best in the league and the addition of Brandon Marshall will make Chad Henne's job a lot easier. This division will be fun to watch unfold.

North:
Baltimore Ravens
Cincinnati Bengals
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns

The Ravens are primed. Quarterback Joe Flacco keeps improving and now has Anquon Boldin to throw to. Ray Rice broke out last season and became an elite running back in the NFL, able to break it for big gains and to catch it out of the back field. He is the best combo back in the league. And the defense is what it always is: bruising, fast and intimidating. I am not convinced that the TO/Ochocinco project is going to work. Carson Palmer has lost a step since his terrible knee injury and it showed last season. The Bengals had a good running game but I'm not sure I would want to put my eggs in the Cedric Benson psycho basket. The defense is ok, Adam "Don't call me Pacman" Jones is now on the team, so strip clubs in Northern Kentucky beware. The Steelers will struggle the first five games when Byron Leftwich or Dennis Dixon is behind the center for the first 5 or 6 games. I doubt they will be able to dig themselves out of a deep hole in a very tough division. My Browns suck. No running back, no receivers, no defense, no quarterback. Oh, I forgot about Jake Delhomme and Colt McCoy. And the fact that Eric Mangini is the coach. Yeah, we suck.

South:
Indianapolis Colts
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee TitansBold

I don't see any team in this division supplanting the Colts just yet. Indy still has Peyton Manning and all of their critical offensive components as well as a healthy returning Anthony Gonzalez. If Bob Sanders and Dwight Freeney can stay healthy then their defense will be a major help in leading them to another Super Bowl appearance. The Texans are on the cusp but I can't pick the upset just yet. Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson are the best QB/receiver tandem in the NFL. Yes I said it. Tell me I'm wrong and then go look at their numbers. If they can get Steve Slayton to take the next step and if they can get their defense to stop the one team in their way, the Colts, then we may see a changing of the guard. Just not this year. The Jags are ok. The only reason I didn't pick them last is because I think David Gerrard is a marginally better quarterback than Vince Young. Both teams have dynamic running backs in the forms of Chris Johnson for the Titans and Maurice Jones-Drew for the Jags. At least one of those backs will lead someones fantasy team to a championship!

West:
San Diego Chargers
Oakland Raiders
Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs

I hate the Chargers because I think Phillip Rivers is a whiny punk and what they did to Marty Shottenheimer a few years ago was just plain wrong. But the fact is that, even without LT, they are a good team. And they are in the weakest division in the AFC. There is no reason that they shouldn't be first place. But watch out for the Raiders. I think Jason Capmbell was a part of a bad offensive system in Washington and got a bum rap. The kid's got talent but the problem is he went from one crazy owner to another. The Raiders need to run Michael Bush more. He was one of their most productive backs last season and deserves more carryies than the ever disappointing Darren McFadden. The Raiders have had a good defense over the years and they should not take steps back. The Denver Broncos lost Brandon Marshall and still have Kyle Orton. They also have Brady Quinn (gag) and the unproven Tim Tebow. Let's see if Denver uses Tebow in some Wildcat packages. Something tells me Mr. Jesus will see the field a little more than expected this season. The Chiefs suck. The end.

Check back tomorrow as I will pick the NFC! Go Sports!!
