Coach Cal Updates on the Returning Cats and Other News and Notes

With most of the focus of Kentucky basketball fans being on the new super freshmen and last year's Cats, what's coach Cal's take on returning players Josh Harrelson, DeAndre Liggins, Jon Hood and Darius Miller? Glad you asked! Here is what the coach had to say via Facebook:

"Im seeing vast improvement in DeAndre's shooting already this year and Darius has really impressed with his athleticism. Jon looks more comfortable on the floor and I think he's grown an inch. Josh is lighter on his feet & the w/the way we are going 2 play it was good 2 see him run the floor."

Good to hear that Jon Hood grew an inch. I wonder if coach Cal measures Hood's progress with pencil marks on the side of his office door? But in all seriousness, it's good to finally hear some updates on the returning guys. Sometimes they get lost in the shuffle when it comes to fan's attention. The leadership of Darius Miller is going to be essential to the success of this team. Even though Harrelson is the team elder, Miller has played the most under Cal and should have a big year. I am also looking for Liggins to have a break out year as long as he doesn't start the season out in the doghouse. Harrelson is going to be key as he looks to be the next man off of the bench if Enes Kanter is winded or is in foul trouble. Harrelson was a beast in China and we all hope he continues his success this season. On to the news:

  • Karma. How I love thee. Let me count the ways. A-Fraud is still stuck of 599 home runs. He is struggling at this time and I couldn't be happier. I know he will eventually get it, but to see him sweat it out is fantastic.

  • Revis Island. Population:1. The best player on the New York Jets, defensive or offensive, did not report to camp on Sunday and will hold out until he receives a new contract. Revis wants to be the highest paid defensive back in the league (the current player with that distinction is the Raiders Nnamdi Asomugha. Who?). Revis is set to make $1 million dollars in the last year of his contract. I for one think that Revis is worth the money. He is THE shut down corner in the NFL and has the potential to win an MVP as a defensive player. I hate hold outs but this may be justified.

  • Albert Haynesworth is still being a lump of crap. He skipped his fitness test for the third straight day today and doesn't look interested in doing anything football related. He is tired of Mike Shanahan trying to assert his authority. Haynesworth has already accepted money from the Redskins, he is the highest paid defensive lineman in the league and one of the team's highest paid players. He is the opposite of Revis. He is just a big fat baby.

  • Karen Sypher's divorce lawyer Dana Kolter is set to take the stand today. Kolter has had past intimate relations with Sypher, but so has a quarter of Louisville, so today should be interesting.

  • Speaking of Syper and Quick Rick, I want to start a trend today. Until the Sypher trial is over I am going to post a link to WHAS 11's website so the Sportsthat readers can feel the pulse of the community's feeling of Quick Rick. Here ya go! Enjoy the opinions.
