Kentucky prepares for OOOOH Canada Trip

So it seems a little odd, but it has me totally amped up. The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team will take to the road in 9 days and that road leads to the great while northern country of Canada. They will play their first game of the 2010-2011 season two weeks prior to the first football game - an awesome feat for a basketball tilted school and fan base.

What's more exciting is a first glimpse of "The Replacements" for the 2009-2010 Draft Cats. The team lost 4 of their starting 5 and 5 of their top 6 players. Throw in the losses of a few senior role players and it's a completely overhauled squad.

Which is why Kentucky fans are even more excited. The team is a bit of a mystery and this is a first glimpse of the stock we purchased back in the spring. It'll be a chance to see if we struck gold or just mud. The imported Turkish phenom, Gatorade player of the year, the star of the Terrence Jones Diary drama, McDonald's All-American Shooting Guards, and key role players have led to a huge opening act.

However, it could turn our that this trip may not preview all of the answers many expected. Enes Kanter has eligibility issues after playing ball for a Turkish professional team, Terrence Jones who injured his ankle (pictured above), won't play if not fully healed, and Eloy Vargas has yet to enroll in classes after transferring from his Junior College. All of these things leaving Cat fans still shrouded in mystery and full of questions.

The Cats leave on August 15th and many of these questions will remain unanswered. Cal has said that Kanter won't make the trip if he isn't declared eligible before the 15th and Jones won't play if he isn't 100%. But no matter their status, there are games to play and you have to have players fill those spots and Calipari has not turned a deaf ear towards playing 5 guards - I mean it's either that or playing Josh Harrelson till his Jorts fall off.

The three games series will be broadcast on BBSN starting on the 15th at 7:00pm. That's 840 AM in Louisville and 630 AM in Lexington. The games will also be carried locally on television. Check your local listings!
