The old adage states that "No news is good news" but this isn't the case with Kentucky's stud Turkish center Enes Kanter. The NCAA has not yet cleared Kanter to play and is still looking into his amateur status.
According to a report in the Courier Journal, Kanter played for a professional team in Turkey but turned down a contract to remain an amateur so he could come to the United States and play for a college team. Sports Illustrated is also reporting that Kanter turned down a deal when he was 16.
John Calipari told ESPN that Kanter would be cleared to play for the 2010-2011 season but there is still doubt whether or not he would be cleared in time to go on the trip to Canada later this month. Kanter has been practicing with the team and has been taking classes this summer.
I really hope this all works out. Kanter is a potential beast down low and after him the Cats' options at center are not great. Plus I have a bet that The Istanbul will put up a double-double against the Dirty Cards much like Boogie did last year. I do not expect Big Enes to throw any elbows but I am not against the idea.
