Joker Phillips: Raising the Bar

In Joker we trust

From what I can gather from various interviews with Kentucky's new football coach, I think one thing is for certain: he is not one to mince words. Phillps voiced his displeasure with the concentration during the two practices that the Cats held in the extreme heat. He says over and over again that the effort was there but there were too many missed assignments and dropped balls.

It's still early and it's just a little under a month away until the big game on September fourth, but the Cats need to eliminate these mental errors and the receivers must give their quarterbacks reliable targets. The passing game remains a big question mark for the offense. Without a true #1 wide receiver it is important that an Aaron Boyd or a Chris Matthews step up to claim that title. Phillps has high expectations for his players and expects nothing but their best at all times. He is quick to praise their effort but effort alone will not beat the Cards or give the Cats a winning record in the SEC. I believe he is pushing this team like they have never been pushed.

The Cats need to leave no doubt on the field after the game against Louisville. I believe the talent and the effort will be there, it seems that the concentration and execution will be the keys for a Wildcat victory. If the Cards do in fact beat the Cats, it's going to be a loooong first season for Joker Phillips.

But no worries here! Joker is a Kentuckian, he played at Kentucky and he has great experience. I think he knows that this season can represent a turning point for Wildcat football. I have no doubt that he is thankful for this opportunity and that he is going to take advantage of it.

Go Cats!
