Today is Louisville Hate Day on KSR. I am adopting Louisville Hate Day to Sportsthat (although everyday is Louisville Hate Day for me). I am going to list the most hateable Cardinal players and coaches in my lifetime and give reasons why I hate them. Sit back and enjoy the negativity!
In no particular order:
Edgar Sosa- Lil' Eddie Sosa. He shares a unique distinction as being a player that is almost equally despised by both Louisville and Kentucky fans. The me-first, show off clown that he was made him easy to hate. And that three pointer in Michael Porter's face did not help. He took time out of games to fix his eyebrows on camera and didn't really ever grasp the concept the art of speaking English.
Brian Brohm- Yes, Brohm was a good quarterback and even brought Louisville their very first Orange Bowl (Kentucky already had one). He continuously beat UK every year until Andre Woodson and Stevie Johnson decided to put a stop to that. I have met Brohm on a few occasions and I have even been in the same room with him. He is these three things: smug, arrogant and rude. Brohm also played basketball against my little brother in the 7th and 8th grade. He cried constantly at games and threw hissy fits if fouls were not called on players guarding him. He was a sissy.
TWill- Terrence Williams was probably the most beloved Cardinal among Louisville fans in the past decade. What makes TWill so hateable? Because he is a Jack Ass. Signing a little kids basketball with the words "John Wall sucks" on it because the kid had on a UK hat, turning down 2Hot's little sister for an autograph at a UofL women's game for no reason (she was like 10 if memory serves correctly), repeatedly using the "F" word and the "N" word loudly at a public Qdoba (eyewitness account), and Tweeting that his life would be better if he would not be on the Nets even though they are paying him millions of dollars are just a few of the reasons to hate TWill. Plus his infamous river dance while beating the tar out of Arizona. He is a HUGE Jerk Face.
B.J. Flynn- Or as we UK fans like to call him Sir Flops A Lot. Flynn was the token white boy on some REALLY bad UofL teams in the mid-90's. He would flop on the floor to get a foul faster than a fish out of water. His floppy blond hair fit his style of play perfectly. The mere thought of him still makes my skin crawl.
John L. Smith- If John L. Smith has a legacy at Louisville it would be that he ushered in the modern era of thug ball that Charlie Strong has to now undo. Smith's teams were notorious for wracking up penalties and committing personal fouls. The percentage of Louisville football players that had run ins with the law jumped dramatically when he hit the scene. He was also the first coach to wear that horrific Old English style "L" on his hat that can now be witnessed tattooed on the bodies of UofL fans from Portland to Shively.
Bobby Petrino- Petrino continued John L.'s legacy of thuggery and winning. His players were also notorious for run-in's with the law but it was all good because of UofL's winning ways. One of UofL fans favortie sayings about UK is that the Cats like to "win at all costs". Well, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Petrino gave the Dirty Birds the finger and bolted to the Falcons. He then left the Falcons in the lurch and fled to Arkansas where he is still a hated individual.
Rick Pitino- Judas Iscariot has nothing on Ole' Sticky Ricky. Rick Pitino was once the King of the Blue Grass and the King of College basketball at UK. His teams played in epic games (Duke, the comeback against LSU) and went to multiple Final Fours and even won a National Title. Hubris got the best of Rick and he left for the NBA even though he said he wasn't going to. He flopped majorly with the Celtics and came back to college basketball humbled (well, not really), with his tail between his legs. 90% of the UK fan base would have been fine with coach Pitino if he would have went anywhere in the NCAA besides 2 schools: Duke and Louisville. So what did he do? In an apparent slap in the face he went to our arch rival and cried that he did not understand why UK fans hated him so much.
If Roy Williams went to Duke, if Bill Bellichick went to Indianapolis, if Roger Clemens went to the Yankees...oh, he did, there would be outcries from those fan bases. Same rules apply here. Rick went to the dark side and can never come back. But we will keep the 96 title. Thanks pal. What's funny is that Ricky P. could have made the Cardinals most hated UK personality until he put on the red and black. I remember the good ole' days where UofL fans were calling Pitino the same dirty names they now call John Calipari: cheater, scum, son of the devil.
The Fans- I have many friends and family members that are Louisville fans and this is not for you. This goes out to the fans that suffer terribly from SMS (Small Man Syndrome). No matter what Kentucky does or what Kentucky has accomplished UofL is somehow better. 7 national championships? So what, those were like in 1952. Most winningest program in history? It's because UK cheated. All time winning records in football and basketball in the UK/UofL rivalry? Doesn't matter because UofL is "miles ahead".
It's the fans that prescribe to the "Best College Sports town in America" mentality even though it's not even close that get on my nerves. And those are the same fans that will leave a game at the drop of a hat if their team is losing.
This article is halarious...you forgot Tick Rodgers though and don't forget Greg Minor, the guy who owe's his baby momma 10s of thousands of dollars in back child support.
