Cats beat the Gators, Win the SEC Title for the Second Straight Year

DUH! WINNING!

I cannot believe what I just saw. The Cats totally dominated Florida through 80% of the game and won 70-54. Let's break it down and see what's what:

  • Darius Miller was named the MVP of the tournament and it was well deserved. Miller had 15 against Ole Miss, 10 against Alabama and 15 against Florida. He also provided stunning defense and hustle plays galore. He had two monster blocks against the Gators that set the tone for the Cats defensively. He has come a long way since the infamous "pass up shot" against Ole Miss. 10 straight games in double figure from the hometown kid.

  • Brandon Knight and Josh Harrellson joined Miller on the All Tournament team. Can you believe that Jorts is on the SEC All Tournament team? His double-double yesterday and his 8 rebounds today put him over the edge. And Brandon Knight: 17 points today, 12 against Bama and 17 against Mississippi. He isn't turning it over like he was in the early season and he is running this team like he's a veteran. The young man is mature beyond his years.

  • Not enough to say about the toughness of Doron Lamb and DeAndre Liggins. Neither guy set the world on fire but they hustled and hit shots when they were called to. Lamb seemed a step slow but scored some lay up buckets and got it done on the free throw line. Liggins earned 10 tough points and frustrated the hell out of Florida's guards.

  • The biggest story line of this game is the great defense by Kentucky. They kept Florida from the foul line and held a high powered offense to 54 points. The size and speed of the UK guards limited their gifted guards to 8 points from Walker and 10 points from Boynton. Florida shot 38% from the field and made only 3 made free throws and went to the line only 8 times the entire game.

  • UK can be a grind it out half court team, something they were not in January and the beginning for February. This team is leaps and bounds better than when the beat Washington, Louisville, Notre Dame and lost to one at North Carolina. These boys could make some noise in the next few weeks.

  • EEEELLLLOOOOYYYY!!!!! Vargas has played very well for what he is the last three games. Today Eloy had 3 points, 4 rebounds, a steal and he played great defense. It seems Calipari can count on him for productive minutes it now seems.

  • John Caliapri is 2-0 in the SEC Championship game. Not bad for his second year.

I think the Cats are a lock for a 3 seed right now. This team has earned it, going through growing pains, confidence issues and more recently injuries. Here is to a favorable draw in the NCAA.

Wow. Go Cats!
