The Lakers are in Trouble and Other things of Interest

Is there a worse "Game Face" in all of sports?

Kobe Bryant tried his best to keep the Celtics from winning the pivotal Game 5, but his best wasn't good enough. The C's closed their home stand with a 92-86 win and left Boston up 3-2 heading back to L.A. Paul Pierce finally broke out with 27 points last night.

Kobe was the leading scorer on both teams with 38, but his running mate Pau Gasol finished with only 12 points and the defense of the Celtics was just too much to handle for the Lakers. I'm really glad because Kobe's act is getting a little tired and worn out.

After games Kobe has been cold and condescending towards the media, sometimes refusing to answer questions. I guess he learned that from Phil Jackson. Kobe has yet to lay any blame on himself, where blame should lie considering the fact that his games have been sub-par compared to Kobe standards until last night.

In stark contrast the players for the Celtics were quick to accept blame for poor play in games 1 and 3. Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen especially. Watching the Celtics during and after the game, one gets the feeling that these guys truly love playing together and they look more like a team. They celebrate together and they accept defeat together.

All you get from the Lakers is whatever Kobe or Phil have to say. Bryant has never been a good teammate. He may be good at finding guys that are open but if that player misses that open shot, then Kobe will give him that famous mean mug of his. I hope the Celtics close it out in Game 6 in L.A. Put that jerk to shame and celebrate that title in his own house.

  • The USA tied England this weekend in soccer. Yeehaw.
  • I was driving along this morning when I heard a promotion on the radio about the Eagles coming to the KFC Yum! Arena on October 16. I am mentioning this little blurb because of the wording of the promotion: "The Eagles will fly into the Bucket on October 16!" I wish I was making this up but I'm not. Louisville fans: the name for your new arena is lame and you should be embarrassed.
  • LeBron James gave Tom Izzo his blessing as the head coach of the Cavs. The importance of this is two-fold. 1). This makes it look like Tom Izzo is very close to signing; 2). LeBron may be excited to play for Izzo and this could go a long way for the Cleve to keep the King. Remember that time when the owner of the Cavaliers said that he would not be consulting LeBron on the new coach? I called BS then and I am still calling it.
  • Rumor has it that Tom Izzo got some advice from John Calipari on what he should do in regards to going to the NBA. Calipari would be a good source considering that he knows quite well the ups and downs of the NBA.

  1. If I were a member of the AP, I would request Ron Artest for the post game. Kobe sits there and acts like a d-bag. At least Ron-Ron would probably say something quote worthy.
