A Red Sox 5th of July News Update

So I've now made my 3rd of 4 trips in 5 weeks. This one being the first of a pair of personal detours from home. This whole 4th of July thing took a pretty cool spin from the norm of fireworks and beer with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, seeing Paul Revere's home and grave, Cheers and of course going to a true American Beer Brewery in the Sam Adams factory. If you mix in some baseball - despite it being the Red Sox and a friendly face to accompany - no NOT Toby Keith (who for some reason he accompanied the Boston Pops at the firework display) it was an awesome weekend. Thus So Long Boston I need to get ready for Chicago which I will be leaving for in a mere 2 days.

But seeing that the site wasn't updated with any articles in my absence - as Boogie was probably under the influence of alcohol love ... ok the strikethrough probably wasn't necessary as it was probably both... , a quick look around cyberspace (do people really still call it that) shows it was a slow weekend in sports. Here are the highlights if, like me, you were out of touch with 2010 and were back in 1776.

  • The Lebron James Summit in Akron Ohio has taken place and everyone is still waiting on word to see if he will be tearing Cleveland down or building somewhere else up. He met with everyone from Chicago to New York to LA (Clippers) to Miami. He saw Family Guy cartoons of his likeness (Cleveland) and New York SNL skits (NY of course).
  • Apparently Chicago made one helluva push to try to land Dwayne Wade. The word on the street is that he is seriously considering Chicago after being a firm Miami commit.

--- OK I am now realizing why I like covering this stuff, it's like college recruiting all over again!
  • Joe Johnson is set to sign a 6 year max deal with the Hawks. This would normally sound overboard, but with guys like Darko Milicic signing a 4 year 20 million deal, Johnson should be worth A-Rod's 300million -  Chris Bosh would be worth a resolution in Iraq and Lebron would be worth BP solving the Oil Spill Crisis... just to put it in perspective.
  • John Clay is reporting that Darnell Dodson will not be returning to Kentucky next season. Apparently, he needs to do some things to get back on the team. My guess is that those things would see him transfer from UK, but the Cats can't take his APR hit and somehow Cal got him to just sit out and get his grades up.
  • Since it's 4th of July - the annual Nathan's hot dog eating competition ended in controversy, as one time Japanese champ Takeru Kobayashi sat out due to a contract dispute. He attended as a fan and jumped on stage right before kickoff "hoping to join" due to fan pressure. He was arrested and taken away to spend the night in jail.
