Free Agentgasm!!!

The first day of the NBA free agent period is upon us and there is a ton of NBA news to get to.

  • The Cavaliers have finally become active and are reportedly set to hire former NBA coach of the year Byron Scott to fill the head coach vacancy. Sources close to LeBron James say that he wants to play for a former NBA player and Scott fits that criteria. Welcome back into the game Cleveland.
  • Joe Johnson will remain a Hawk and get PAID. He is set to make $124.5 million over the next six years. I think this is a little excessive for a player like Johnson. He is a very good player but I don't think he is great. The Hawks are paying him like he is Kobe, D-Wade, LeBron or Dwight Howard.
  • Dwayne Wade met with the Bulls for 2 hours today, discussing the possibility of him returning to his hometown. Many experts fully expect Wade to test the waters but remain in Miami.
  • Chris Bosh is receiving love from Toronto, Miami, Chicago and...Houston. One thing is for certain and that is Chris Bosh ain't going back to Toronto.
  • Amare Stoudamire wants a new 5 year deal and has met with Miami and the Knicks are next on his list of suitors.
I saved the best for last and I need more room that a bullet point can give me. The New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks are out for blood. The new owner of the Nets purchased space on the side of a building right by Madison Square Garden. On the side of the building is a mural that reads "The Blueprint for Greatness" with a picture of Jay Z and owner Mikhail Prokhorov. This is directly aimed at LeBron James. The Knicks complained to the NBA but the mural broke no rules. The Nets get about 1,000 cool points for this move.

James already met with Prokhorov, Jay-Z and Avery Johnson for 90 minutes earlier today. As the Nets entourage left James they passed the Knicks entourage as they were next to meet with LeBron. The Knicks group is not as sexy as the Nets. It included owner James Dolan, president Donnie Walsh, coach Mike D'Antoni and Allan Houston. Ssssssssnnnnnnnnnnooooorrrrrrrreeee...

The Heat and the Bulls are going to meet with the King on Friday and the Cavaliers will meet with him on Saturday. This is going to be fun to follow.
