Ole Miss beats UK. Santa Claus Contemplates Suicide.

This is probably the most depressing picture I could find. Who would have known St. Nick was a Cats fan?

I haven't been this pissed with a Kentucky loss since Billy Gillispie trod the court at UK. What happened was inexcusable, sad and crushing. This was a bad loss. I am usually a very upbeat guy but this has made me as depressed as when I realized that George W. Bush won a second term as president. I think I can try to gather my thoughts and try to figure out what happened:
  • After John Calipari had basically begged to get something out of his three veterans he got nothing. Miller, Harrellson and Liggins combined for a total of 10 points while Lamb, Jones and Knight combined for 57. Vargas had 2.

  • There is no depth. The Cats have ten players and really only six of them can produce. But when there are nights like this and only three players on a thin team can produce, then it's curtains.

  • For whatever reason this team is awful on the road. The Cats have lost five games, all on the road. They are 4-3 in the SEC and have dropped games in Georgia, Alabama and now Ole Miss. Two of those three losses are an embarrassment and the latest one is the worst all year.

  • Brandon Knight has not fared well away from Rupp this year. He had 15 points tonight but 10 of them came in one bunch in the second half. In the first half he had 5 points, 2 fouls and 5 turnovers.

  • Darius Miller is floating somewhere in Limbo and he needs to make up his mind whether or not he wants to play. Tonight he had his worst game of the season and possibly the worst of his career. Miller had three points and made the biggest turnover of the game as the shot clock was winding down. He passed up a wide open three pointer that would have put the game out of reach, passed it off to an unsuspecting DeAndre Liggins and the clock ran out. Step up and take the shot. I hate to knock a kid, but come on man.

  • Every team UK plays hates them and wants to beat them because of who they are. They need to embrace this and start playing away games with a chip on their shoulders. Find some heart, grow some onions and develop a nasty attitude.

That's about all I can take at the moment. I said it earlier this year and I will say it again, I think this team has a ceiling and it's the Elite Eight and maybe even the Sweet Sixteen. The way they played tonight they would be lucky to get past the second round. My biggest worry is that the six man rotation going right now is catching up with them. After Lamb comes off of the bench, there is nothing there.

Something else this team needs to realize is that the easy part of conference play is over. They still have to play Florida twice, Vandy twice and Tennessee twice. They go into the Swamp for a prime time game Saturday night. If they think a half filled Ole Miss Tad Pad is tough, wait until they step foot in the Swamp with the Rowdy Reptiles. I now must go vomit. See you tomorrow.
