Yes we can... No Louisville Can't

Yes, my bracket had Louisville losing to Morehead State yesterday. I am a strong believer in "Game Theory" with brackets. You pick your wins/loses based on what your competition will do. Seeing as how 60% of the people in my bracket are Louisville fans that will pick them to make the Sweet 16/Elite 8 and I gave Morehead a 50% chance to win, it was a chance to make points up against the competition.

Yes, I gave the Eagles a 50% chance to win solely because I thought future 1st round NBA Draft pick Kenneth Faried was going to be a huge issue for Louisville. Faried is the all time NCAA leader in rebounds and that is a skill that transfers to any league, any level of play. Faried shot poorly, but he gathered 17 rebounds giving his team 17 possessions. More possessions equal more chances for points. More points... well you get it.

Yes, I did expect the rebound differential to be the difference. In 8 of Louisville's 10 loses, they were out rebounded. Yesterday, the tally was 33 to 27 in favor of the Eagles. Sometimes you don't need rebounds but when you shoot 36% and your opponent shoots 45% (and 40% from 3) you need more possessions.

And Yes, I really just wanted another reason to cheer against the Cards. My favorite part is Morehead will now face the Spiders from Richmond who beat the #5 seeded Vanderbilt.

And "Nooooooooooo!" was word being reverberated through Sports and Social Club yesterday as Demonte Harper nail the go ahead 3 pointer with less than 5 seconds remaining - while "Yesssssss!" could be heard whispered by UK fans in attendance, including a yes from this UK fan.

NCAA Tourney Fun!

I'm a Kentucky fan and this makes even me depressed when I look at it.

Let's take a gander at some of the headlines coming out of the NCAA tournament so far:

-The biggest upset of the tournament belongs to the Louisville Cardinals losing to the mighty Eagles of Morehead State. After the game, former Cardinal and current All-Star Prick Terrence Williams tweeted the following:

"Hhahaha morehead st what is that? I remember when we played guys like that was scared to look at uson the court man times have changed"

What TWill failed to mention is that his Elite 8 team during his senior year was down to the Eagles by 2 at the half. Yes, Louisville ended up pulling away, but I doubt he was saying garbage like that at half time. It just continues to prove my point that TWill is a jerk, he's always been a jerk and he will alway be a jerk. There was no call for him to bash his former team like that. With friends like that, who needs Karen Sypher?

-Bruce Pearl likely made his curtain call with the Volunteers this afternoon. His 9th seeded Vols were blown out by the 8th seeded Michigan Wolverines. The score was 75-45, yes you read that correctly. I'm not sure when Michigan became a 1 seed and Tennessee became a 16. Tennessee forward Tobias Harris had this to say: "We didn't play with no heart...we basically quit." There had been rumors that Pearl's players had given up on him. Today's performance pretty much proved that.

-Terrence Jones might be sick and not in that cool slang way the kids use. Jones was seen coughing throughout the game and he was coughing while being interviewed afterward. Jones also had cough drops in his locker. Please let in pass before tomorrow.

-Michigan State lost by 3. They were down by 23 points to UCLA and stormed back. I really don't care because I don't think they deserved to be there. It was a classic case of "in by reputation".

-The only big upsets I see left that are possible in the first round are VCU over Georgetown, Georgia over Washington, or Marquette over Xavier. Other than that it might be a pretty uneventful start besides you know who. Then again, something huge can happen. This March. You never know.

-The last thing I have to say is that I wish the announcers, tv analysts and stations would quit referring to this as the second round. I didn't watch any of the garbage pale games Tuesday and Wednesday night for a reason. They sucked. Not one of those teams has advanced and none of them will. Today is the final day of the FIRST ROUND.

• The Cats shoot a helluava lot better
• Bob Huggins will probably be drunk and Coach Cal will not
• Brandon Knight has a higher GPA than their entire team combined
• Nobody wants to see burnt coaches in Tampa
• We owe them for Boogie

I know Cal is only 1-8 all time against Huggy Bear but that's about to change. The Cats had a down game and there is only one way to go from here and that is up. Time to take out some rednecks.

Kentucky Blows Out Princ...Wait a Minute

Noway to I want this guy's dream season to end. Get your Jorts on.

So. That. Just. Happened. The Wildcats outlasted a very feisty, calculated, smart Princeton team to win by two in the first game of the tournament season in Tampa. I really thought the Cats would roll in this one, considering our winning streak and current margin of victory/points per game.

So WTF, man?

• Princeton dictated the pace and did what they wanted to do. The game was slowed to a crawl and it was half court offense vs. half court offense. Kentucky won the battle because of A). Athletic ability and B). Jorts would not be denied. Princeton's game plan was executed to perfection, the Cats just came out on top.


• Brandon, Knight, Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb combined for 17 points. Knight and Jones average 17 points a piece. Our three freshmen showed their youth for really the first time all season. The big stage coupled with a disciplined opponent equalled bad times. I don't expect this to happen again.


• Knight only had two, but they were the biggest two of the game.


• Miller killed it in the first half and was the primary reason the Cats were ahead. 17 points makes this the 11th straight double digit effort by the Maysville native.


• Freakin' Jorts BABY!!! 15 and 10 is only second to the Louisville "We Just Lost to Morehead" Cardinals beat down. He doesn't want his career to end.


• Liggins had some key assists and hit the three to put the Cats ahead at half time. Liggins played his best ball in the second half.


• Thank goodness for the win. Next...

I am hoping that this is the off game that Kentucky experiences in the tournament. Better now than against top quality opponents. I do not expect Brandon Knight, who has been brilliant all season, to only have two points in the next game.

That being said, I cannot be happier with the effort from the upperclassmen. Miller, Harrellson and Jorts all gave their max effort and were rewarded for the effort.

Now, let's put it all together like in the SEC tournament and let's make a run.

Know Your Enemy will be up tomorrow. West Virginia style. You know it's gonna be good.
